Students in elementary school may have no idea about what it takes to make a car work.  When studying how things work and operate some students have the opportunity to study how cars work.  From the key turning on the engine to the brakes stopping the entire vehicle there is a lot to learn and a lot of questions that will be asked.  Undoubtedly one of those questions will be what is gas mileage?  For some it may be simply answered it is the job that the gas does once gasoline is put into the tank.  Other students may want to know the details of how the gasoline turns into working energy.
