Herb was doing some reading about alcoholism and alcohol abuse on the Internet and discovered an answer to the question why alcoholics cannot use will power to stop drinking.  He found out that if alcoholics try to quit drinking that in most instances they will start to experience mild to severe alcohol withdrawal symptoms within hours of taking their last drink.  In other words, alcohol dependent people can’t stop drinking because of the consequences they will experience.  This shed some new insights into the nature of alcoholism and actually made Herb feel more sympathetic with what alcoholics have to endure on a daily basis.
